Marti has been a life long athlete with a strong background in swimming and gymnastics. She was undefeated in her gymnastic specialty for two years and was named to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. She took up triathlon in 1995 and since then has earned her way onto the USA Triathlon Century Club with over 155 triathlons completed, and 5 Ironman events including Kona, HI in 2000. After offering a volunteer effort to the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon in 1995, she and Greer decided to get married in 1997. A triathlon power couple was born. She then became the COO/Race Director for all BSLT events. Since that time, she has race directed over 150 events and earned the Certified Race Director recognition from USA Triathlon. While she does not coach professionally, she has helped countless triathletes overcome their fear of open water because of her passion for people and the sport. She has also displayed the ultimate in volunteering for races, including small races with a 100 people up to the Ironman World Championship and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. Marti is one of the hardest working women in triathlon. Her and Greer’s passion for the sport over the last 28 years is unparalleled. She is best described as a tireless worker with great instincts for venue development and follow through with safe, fun events. A Hall of Fame without Marti Greer placed next to Mike Greer would be missing an integral piece to our region’s success and history.
