*WHAT

USAT SMW is proud to provide this amazing opportunity for our region's collegiate triathletes.  At the core of the camp will be swim, bike & run specific skill work encompassed by a layer of activities designed to expose participants to all aspects of multisport training.  Camp will be based out of the Elmwood Fitness Center, a USAT Certified Training Center, under the guidance of an expert coaching staff.  Are you seeking a supportive environment where you can learn more about a healthy multisport lifestyle?  Are you a competitive triathlete eager to pursue a successful multisport career?  The SMW Collegiate Triathlon Camp is the ideal platform for both.   

 

**WHAT (to expect):

·        Swim Economy will be addressed by focusing on technique using: 

·         Video analysis

·        Benchmark testing

·        Skill drills

·        Open water swim specific skills

·        Cycling Effectiveness will be improved through:

·        Technical discussion on proper bike fit and position

·        Draft-legal practice

·        Strength work

·        Run Efficiency will be addressed through:

·        Video analysis

·        Form drills

·        Strength work

·        Transitioning for Efficiency and Speed including mounts and dismounts

·        Break out and meal presentations covering

·        Building your collegiate team

·        Mental tools to help retain presence and remain focused

·        Nutritional basics

·        "Why is my coach prescribing this workout?"   A discussion about intensity, volume, and frequency

·        Breakfast provided on Saturday/Sunday, lunch provided on Saturday, and dinner provided on Saturday

·        Commemorative 2011 SMW Collegiate Camp 1/4 zip long sleeve tech pullover w/hand warmers

·        Hammer Heed and Athletes Honey Milk will be provided

 

*Each athlete is responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

WHAT (to bring):

·        Swim-swim suit, wetsuit, goggles, 2 swim caps, 2 towels, and body glide

·        Bike-road or triathlon bike in well maintained condition, USAT approved bike helmet, shoes, gloves, layered cycling clothing, 2 water bottles, and nutritional items (sports drinks, gels, and bars)

·        Run-running shoes, attire, heart rate monitor and/or watch

WHEN:

Camp begins Friday, November 18th @ 1p and ends Sunday, November 20th @ 1p. 

If classes prevent an early Thursday or Friday arrival, interested participants can still be accommodated.

 

WHO (is the staff):

Coaching for this event will be led by:

·        Shelly O'Brien, USA Triathlon L3 & International Elite Development Coach, SMW Regional Athlete Development Coordinator

·        Frank Cortese, USA Triathlon and USA Track & Field L1 Coach, SMW Collegiate Chair

·        Doug Fairchild, USA Triathlon and USA Cycling Coach

·        Ben Elder, USA Triathlon L2 Coach

·        Jeff Delaune, USA Triathlon L2 Coach

 

WHO (can attend):

·        All athletes must be full-time students within the 2011-2012 academic year (undergrad or graduate)

·        A maximum age of 28.

·        All athletes must be USAT annual members.

·        All experience levels but athlete must be able to swim 300yds without stopping, Cycle 60 min, and run 30min.  

·        Designated Team Coaches (may not be a student) who have at least 7 athletes attending may participate at no charge.  However, they must be available to assist with group instruction.  Please contact the event director, Frank Cortese, at collegiate@smwtriathlon.org to register.

·        $50 until Oct 21st, $75 until Nov 14th

·        Until September 1st, 2010 registration is limited to the first 7 athletes per college or university. If more than 7 register, the 8th athlete will be notified and will need to re-register at open registration on Oct 1st. No exceptions Apply.

·        Athletes enrolled in a college or university that does not have an organized triathlon team are welcome.

·        If a team has more than 7 athletes who are interested, registration will open on a first come, first serve basis on October 1st, 2011.

 

Refunds

No refunds are allowed.  However an athlete may transfer their registration. To do so  please contact the event director, Frank Cortese, at collegiate@smwtriathlon.org

The rate will be valid as long as rooms are available. 

 

The Athlete Profiler is a virtual "athletic resume" for athletes who desire to be part of USA Triathlon's development and elite programs. The Athlete Profiler has been created to help our athletes keep USA Triathlon staff coaches up-to-date on current contact information, personal-best times and race performances. USA Triathlon staff will use the information in the database for recruitment and communication to keep the athletes up to date on national and regional elite and development camps, races, and other opportunities.
