Jack Weiss
grew up in Brooklyn New York and is a professed Yankee fan
to this day. He joined the Air Force in 1963. He
served 24 years and retired as a Senior Mast Sergeant, an
E8. While in the service he served both in the United States
and several locations in Europe, primarily in the financial
fields for the Air Force. While in the service he met and
married Ester. They have a son, Norman, currently a Major in
the Air Force. While in the service he was mostly a
runner and cyclist. He did his first triathlon in
1980, the Heart of Dixie triathlon in Mississippi. He
started to Race Direct multisport events for the Air Force
in 1984. In 1993 Jack moved to Euless where he currently
resides.
In 1993,
Jack Wiess formed Ironhead Race Productions, which currently
produces 23 events each year. He was selected
Triathlete Magazine's Race Director of the Year in 1993.
He has served on the USAT South Midwest Region Board for 8
years and was president for 3 years. He served on the USAT national board from 1997 until 2005-8 years with 5
years as Treasurer. He was active in establishing the
USAT Race Director Certification program and is currently
the Chair of the Race Directors Commission.
Jack is also a Level 2 USAT Certified Coach. Jack was
a 2011 Hall of Fame designate for the Runner &Triathlete
magazine. Ester met and married Jack while they
were both in Europe serving in the Air Force. Ester
and Jack left the service and moved to San Angelo in 1987.
Even though Ester was working full time, she became very
involved in the management side of multisport helping Jack
produce events.
Esther Weiss became active in officiating and she was
instrumental in helping many new officials get started.
Ester officiated her first event, Nemaha Ridge
Triathlon in Edmund Oklahoma in may of 1993. She was a
very active USAT Official having officiated 79 events in 15
years, including 4 lronman World Championships in Kona and
the National Duathlon Championships in 1998. In March
of 1997, she progressed upward in the officiating
ranks to Category 1 which is the highest level. She
was made the USAT/SMW Regional Coordinator of Officials and
served in this capacity for 2 years 2000\-2002.
She was recognized for her many efforts in 1994 as as
‘Official of the Year" by USAT In 1996 she was recognized as
"Distinguished Service in Officiating” by USAT.
