Diane Proud

At the end of 2008 Diane Proud was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). For more than 25 years she had been an active member of USAT and a multisport athlete which includes 3 Ironman finishes, Ironman New Zealand and the Ironman World Championship (twice).

She has been a member of Team USA 25 times in triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon. Diane is an 8 time USAT All American , USAT’s selection for Grandmaster Duathlete of the year in 2006 and 2007, Honorable Mention Grandmaster Triathlete of the Year in 2006, and an 2008 USAT Age Group Athlete of the Year.  In 2008, Diane placed 1st in her age group at National Duathlon Championship, USAT SMW Regional Duathlon Championship, and USAT SMW Regional Sprint Triathlon Championship.  She won her age group at 2006 World Duathlon Championship.  She has finished in the top 10 of her age group in 36 World and USAT National Championships in Duathlon, Triathlon, and Off-road Duathlon.

Most recently in 2009, Diane was acknowledged for your success and contributions to USAT SMW with the President’s Award, the highest individual honor awarded by the Region. She also was 1st in her age group in Duathlons and 2nd in triathlons.

Diane became a certified official in 1996 and has since upgraded to a USAT Cat 2 official. She served as the SMW Region Coordinator of Officials from 2005-2007.

As a USAT Level I Coach and a running/ multisport coach at the Cooper Fitness Center she conducted numerous Youth clinics for running and multisport. Her programs have introduced hundreds of kids to the Multisport lifestyle. In 2005, she was the Associate Staff person of the Year.

Diane was active on the USAT women’s commission for several years and was the home stay coordinator in Dallas for the 2000 Olympic triathlon team trials.
